AIB Student Plus Account

Specially designed for you

For many students, college represents a first taste of real freedom and the start of a few fun filled years. But with this new found freedom also comes the responsibility of managing your money, that's why we've set up the AIB Student Plus Account. It's designed to make it easy for you to manage your finances, so it doesn't interfere with your studies or socialising. We have dedicated Student Advisers to help you along the way and we've thrown in some great rewards for using your account too.

An AIB Student Plus Account ticks all the boxes for your student banking needs and rewards you for using your account. As well as the exclusive benefits outlined above as an AIB Student Plus Account holder you can benefit from:

Banking Free of Maintenance and Transaction Fees

You will not be charged account maintenance or transaction fees on your AIB Student Plus Account.

Service Charges

You are exempt from paying service charges with the exception of the following:

  • Cheques lodged to your account and returned unpaid
  • Cheques, direct debits or standing orders presented on your account and returned unpaid
  • Additional/Replacement Card Reader for AIB Phone & Internet Banking
  • Same Day Value Payments
  • Government Charges in respect of ATM, Debit Cards and Credit Cards also apply.

AIB Debit Card

The AIB Debit Card lets you make purchases at Point of Sale (POS) and cash withdrawals at ATMs in Ireland and abroad. You can also use it to shop online or pay for goods and services over the phone. For more information please view AIB Debit Card in Related Information.

Terms and conditions apply. Debit Cards are liable to an annual Government Stamp Duty charge which is applied in January of each year, currently EUR2.50 per card applies where the card is used for either an ATM/in Branch transaction or a Point of Sale transaction, and EUR5 per card applies where the card is used for both.

Interest Free Overdraft

We offer an interest free overdraft up to EUR1,500 which gives you easy access to funds and provides peace of mind that additional funds are accessible when you need them. Contact your local AIB branch or the AIB Student Centre.

If you apply and are approved for a new overdraft facility, you'll benefit from our 'interest free' overdraft.

You will get an overdraft on an interest free basis up to a maximum of EUR1,500. Authorised overdraft facilities over EUR1,500 will attract the Bank's Standard Variable 'A' rate for personal overdrafts on balances greater than EUR1,500.

Reduced Rate Loans up to EUR75,000

With a flexible personal loan from AIB you can avail of the following benefits: Unscheduled Repayments - you have the option of making unscheduled, additional repayments to your loan at any time with no penalty. This can be done either through your branch or AIB Internet Banking and as your repayments will stay the same, your loan term will be shorter and the cost of your loan will be reduced.

Low Interest Rates - Students can apply for a personal loan at a special reduced rate of 1.5% off the Bank's Standard Variable 'A' Personal Loan Rate up to a maximum of EUR75,000. This discount will apply for the agreed life of the loan until it is paid.

AIB Student MasterCard

This credit card is specifically designed to meet the lifestyle of a full-time third level student. A convenient way to shop online and pay for day to day expenses, it allows you to pay for a student lifestyle on a schedule that fits your budget.

Government Stamp Duty of EUR30 is charged annually per credit card account.

Foreign Exchange

You will pay no commission charges when you buy or sell foreign currency notes or if you lodge traveller's cheques. In order to receive this benefit you must identify yourself as an AIB Student Plus Account holder and request the benefit at the time.
